Mohawk Village Memorial Park is open to all, and we encourage all individuals and abilities to visit, especially those the park commemorates. Safe pathways within Mohawk Village Memorial Park were necessary, as the natural landscape did not provide secure or accessible routes to its existing features. The children who once attended the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School were now in their late 50s or older and several former students faced mobility challenges that required walkers, wheelchairs or other mobility aids. The “Safe Walkways in the Park” project proposed to construct 6-foot-wide cement walkways, enabling everyone to enjoy the park’s amenities (as of 2023) safely and comfortably.
