Mohawk Village Memorial Park celebrates generous Community Building Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation
Brantford, ON – On Friday, the Mohawk Village Memorial Park team met to celebrate the $50,000 Community Building Fund grant received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in which the Project Coordinator position was renewed, enabling the Mohawk Village Memorial Park Board to once again function with current technology and expertise.
“The only way to reconcile and rebuild relationships and live by the Two Row Wampum belt is to remember the past in order to inform the present and look towards a hopeful future. I am thankful for the Ontario Trillium grant which provides for a Project Coordinator,” said MPP Will Bouma. “This role is vital to the construction of the Memorial Park which will serve as a place of remembrance for survivors of the Mohawk Institute.”
This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation allowed MVMP to continue to employ their project coordinator whose has the extensive skills necessary to perform day to day operations and undertake various initiatives required to reach their mission of building a memorial park to honour former Mohawk Institute Residential School Students.
“This funding has enabled us to continue to function as a viable organization and without it we may have ceased to operate on a daily basis,” said Roberta Hill, Chairperson of the Mohawk Village Memorial Park.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund.
