Walk for the Park 2026 Update

On September 12, 2026, Mohawk Village Memorial Park held its Walk for the Park fundraiser at 184 Mohawk Street in Brantford, Ontario.

Participants collected pledges and sponsorships in support of a physical activity of their choosing, including walking, running and riding. Donations were received in person and online through our CanadaHelps campaign page.

As of October 5, 2026, the campaign had raised $3,735 to help develop and maintain Mohawk Village Memorial Park.

Update — October 9, 2026: Thanks to the continued generosity of I.L. Thomas staff and students, who raised an incredible $1561.40, our Walk for the Park 2026 campaign total has now reached an estimated $5296.

Mohawk Village Memorial Park is located on the grounds of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School, also known as the “Mush Hole”. The park honours all former students who attended the institution between 1831 and its closure in 1970. These students came from more than 55 communities across Canada. A future memorial wall monument in the park will recognize these communities.

The park will provide a lasting space for remembrance, reflection and healing—a physical and symbolic representation of what we can achieve together as we move forward.

Thank you to everyone who participated, collected pledges or donated. Your support helps us honour former students and build a place of remembrance for future generations.
